Mad Science of Peoria will present hands-on science fun! 

Ages:  3-12

Teens going into 8th through 12th grades can learn how to better draw faces and hands in this four-day workshop with artist Gloria Burlingame. Working from manniquins and photos, you'll learn basic structures and proportions. Create value in your pictures with shadings that add a 3D look. Must register - call 732-7360. Offered at 2 p.m. June 18, 25, July 2 and July 9 at Main Library. Free.

Learn how to stay healthy and well, with Scrubby Bear, the American Red Cross official hand-washing mascot. Scrubby will visit us July 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Library during our regular storytime. Ages birth through 5.

Come on in for a loony wrap up to Summer Reading, with Loony Lori, balloon and jungle face paint makeup artist, appearing at the Rock Island Library Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road.  Walk away with a WILD look for summer! Great for the whole family.

Drama Series Club Performance: See what the kids in the Library’s Summer Drama Series have cooked up for a play. Public performance is at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 at the Rock Island Main Library Community Room, 401 19^th Street, Rock Island.

Sign up your kids to read with a dog and practice their reading skills at the Rock Island Library Children's area, Main Library, 401 19th Street. Families can stop in anytime during the event to read in 15 to 20 minute increments with a therapy dog and handler from PAW'D (Pups Assisting with the Disabled.) Having a dog to read helps kids relax and build reading skills. Free. Call 732-7360 to sign up.

The Library Board of Trustees meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. in the Library Director's office. The public may address the board at the beginning of each meeting.

Artist Mardi Howell will host a public reception for the opening of her new art show at the Rock Island Public Library on Thursday, July 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
