Enjoy a good movie at the Main Rock Island Public Library. Each month a significant Independent Film will be shown in the Community Room of the Main Library–401 19th Street–in downtown Rock Island. All showings will begin at 6:00 p.m. They are free and open to the public. This month’s feature is The Drummer(Hong Kong, 115 min).

Generations of Blues: Mississippi bluesman Hal Reed and Quad Cities’ musician and bandleader Ellis Kell deliver an entertaining and informative program on the influence of Delta blues on the Chicago urban blues style. This program will include live performance of blues music, historic commentary on the journey of the blues, and will define the blues as a cornerstone of our American roots music tradition.

The Friends of the Rock Island Library meet at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rock Island, corner of 31st Avenue and 30th Street. Lunch includes roast pork, red potatoes, carrot salad and pie, and is $6. Program features mini plays by American Association of University Women on notable women in history. Reservations required. Quad City fans of noted author Neil Gaiman can watch a live Internet event, “An
Evening with Neil Gaiman,” from 5 to 7 p.m. local time on April 12 at the Rock Island Public Library, 401 19th Street. The live video stream of Mr. Gaiman’s remarks is made possible by special arrangements with Jessamine County (Ky.) Public Library (JCPL), OARnet, the regional Ohio research and education network, the University of Minnesota and Internet2.
This event, which kicks off National Library Week (April 11-17), is coordinated by the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries and the Jessamine County (Ky.) Public Library (JCPL).

Due to space considerations at our 30/31 Branch, we will use the parking lot of the First Baptist Church immediately across 30th Street. Our thanks to the church for allowing us to use their lot!
The Main Library downtown will host a second shred day on Wednesday, April 21.
