The Friends of the Rock Island Library meet at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rock Island, corner of 31st Avenue and 30th Street. Lunch includes roast pork, red potatoes, carrot salad and pie, and is $6. Program features mini plays by American Association of University Women on notable women in history. Reservations required. Quad City fans of noted author Neil Gaiman can watch a live Internet event, “An Neil Gaiman. Source: HarperCollinsEvening with Neil Gaiman,” from 5 to 7 p.m. local time on April 12 at the Rock Island Public Library, 401 19th Street. The live video stream of Mr. Gaiman’s remarks is made possible by special arrangements with Jessamine County (Ky.) Public Library (JCPL), OARnet, the regional Ohio research and education network, the University of Minnesota and Internet2.

 This event, which kicks off National Library Week (April 11-17), is coordinated by the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries and the Jessamine County (Ky.) Public Library (JCPL).
