The Rock Island Main Library 2nd Floor Art Gallery will host a special art exhibit from Delores De Wilde Bina, "Bina Butterflies," from May 1 to July 1,
2010. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
Many of the large butterfly collages come from her July 2009 Bina Mapflies series, which incorporate various textures, maps and other images. The maps in the collages “represent places I have visited or plan to visit. They also represent the world the butterfly inhabits. The map is a textural surface that allows me to manipulate patterns, textures and create illusionary depth,” says Bina. The pieces in the exhibit include collage, acrylic paint, varied inks, pencil and layered materials.
Bina will host a public reception on May 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the library art gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

Enjoy a good movie at the Main Rock Island Public Library. Each month a significant Independent Film will be shown in the Community Room of the Main Library–401 19th Street–in downtown Rock Island. All showings will begin at 6:00 p.m. They are free and open to the public. This month’s feature is The Window (Argentina/Spain, 85 min). It is a significant day for 80 year old Antonio. After an absence of many years, his estranged son is coming to visit. All must be perfect. There will be a toast with a very special champagne; an embrace; warm words that may finally bridge the gap between them… But before, Antonio must wait. Bedridden, he looks out his window at the Patagonian landscape and sees light and life, the past and the present, while sensing the future. He decides to secretly leave the house, unseen by his faithful caretakers, to take what might be a last walk in his fields, breathing the air, treading the earth, inhaling the scent of the land that had been his life. What could otherwise seem like insignificant memories or moments in one's life, take a special, beautiful meaning and weight in this poetic, humanistic film.
Please be advised that none of these films are rated and some may not be suitable for children.
