The Rock Island Main Library 2nd Floor Art Gallery will host a special art exhibit from Delores De Wilde Bina, "Bina Butterflies," from May 1 to July 1, Many of the large butterfly collages come from her July 2009 Bina Mapflies series, which incorporate various textures, maps and other images. The maps in the collages “represent places I have visited or plan to visit. They also represent the world the butterfly inhabits. The map is a textural surface that allows me to manipulate patterns, textures and create illusionary depth,” says Bina. The pieces in the exhibit include collage, acrylic paint, varied inks, pencil and layered materials. Bina will host a public reception on May 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the library art gallery.
