Paint for Pages, a special art reception & silent auction, will raise funds for the Lorene Evans Watts Memorial Fund for Children's Materials on Saturday, July 3 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., in the Rock Island Main Library's Community Room and art gallery. Mrs. Watts, a long-time teacher, artist and children's advocate, served on the Rock Island Library Board of Trustees. In addition to showing Mrs. Watts' artwork, the night will feature sales of artwork by local and family artists, as well as light refreshments, a silent auction and an autograph session with former AFL player Booker Edgerson, a Rock Island native. The special after-hours event is from6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Public Library Community Room and art gallery on the 2nd floor.
All monies raised will go to the Lorene Evans Watts Memorial Fund for Children’s Materials set up through the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.

Professor and historian Dr. Art Pitz will discuss the tumultuous history of the Middle East in his presentation, The Arab-Israeli Conflict: A History in Four Parts. The first two lectures (Aug. 2 and 9) will be held at the Rock Island Main Library.The August 16 and 23 presentations are at the Moline Public Library, 3210 41st Street, Moline IL. Part 1: Late 19th Century to WWI - Monday, August 2, Rock Island Main Library, 6 p.m. The series is free; no registration is required.
