Rock Island artist Charles J. White displays his unique shaped About the Artist & Show: Charles J. White worked in publishing after leaving the U.S. Army, and then taught high school art for 30 years. While earning his master’s degree, he developed the shaped canvas technique on display in the exhibit. Today, White paints full time, and the backyard of his Rock Island home offers plenty of inspiration in the form of the four-legged wildlife that seems to leap out of the canvases of this show. The cast of outdoor friends and neighbors ranges from the artist’s own dog to squirrels, wild turkeys, owls, raccoons, deer and even an eagle.
