Types of Library Cards

Rock Island Public Library Cards are funded by taxes paid in Rock Island and the Milan-Blackhawk Area Public Library District. If you're a resident of either, you qualify!

Here's what we offer:

• My First Library Card for children six and under
  • Built-in limits to help parents control use, and no fines for late items. 
  • Check out up to 10 children's items (Rock Island Library locations only)
  • Internet use and holds are not available.
  • Lost or damaged items are charged to parent. 

 

• Full access library card for ages six and up
  • Full borrowing privileges and library computer time
  • Access to ALL library services and materials, including digital services and online research tools

 

• Digital only library card,the RIPL eCard
  • Access to digital materials and services only
  • Library barcode sent to you by email.
  • Good for one year after date of issue. 

 

Ways to Apply or Renew

1. Apply in Person:

Visit any Rock Island Public Library to apply for our two physical cards.

• Bring appropriate ID, and the card will  be issued at the library
• If you are age 17 or below, a parent/guardian signature will be required

 

2. Apply Online:

To apply or renew your physical card online, please see "Apply or Renew Library Card."

• Library staff will check your eligibility status before issuing card.
• Please allow a few business days for processing and mailing. 
• If you have received a library card renewal reminder, you can also renew by email.

• If your card is lost or stolen, let us know immediately. Call the Circulation staff at 309-732-READ or email our Circulation Department.

 

• Other situation? Cards are also available for special situations, such as students enrolled at Augustana College, and other temporary residents. Please contact our Circulation staff for details about applying for these cards.
