Tell A Friend - Getting or Renewing a Rock Island Public Library card is a winning strategy for success! September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, and we're celebrating with sports-themed promotions, community card drives, and incentives for signing up or renewing a Rock Island card all month.
Any Rock Island or Milan-Blackhawk Area Library District resident who applies or renews their card in September receives a sports stress ball, and one entry for a choice of four prize baskets: Hello Fall, Minecraft, Journaling, or Game On collections.
New cardholders can choose either our NEW 150th anniversary card design or the standard full-access card design. We also offer the My First Library Card design for children ages 5 and under.
Lost or misplaced your card? No problem! We'll waive the reissue fee in September! (If your card has actually expired, it's always renewed at no charge.)
Why now? Not only is a library card a great back-to-school supply for students, it equips ALL ages for success. And fall is a great time to explore all the library has to offer! Your library card connects you to:
- New books and print materials for all ages
- Technology and computer access
- Hotspots and streaming devices
- Online learning and homework assistance
- Online job search and resume tools
- Music and movies
- Cultural passes, a whole Library of Things, and more!
Need a New Start? Bring Those Items Back on Fridays, and all will be Fine (Free!)
We're also offering Fine Free Fridays in September to give existing Rock Island cardholders a new start on using the library. This special offer will waive the late (overdue) charges on traditional library materials returned by our cardholders at a Rock Island Library location. Fine Free dates are Friday, Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. A few restrictions do apply:
- Specialized items - culture passes, streaming devices, hotspots - are not fine free.
- Offer applies to late (overdue) charges. Replacement costs, damages, collection fees, remain the patron's responsibility.
- The item has to be in the catalog for us to find it and waive the fines.
Bringing the item back is the first step toward restoring account access.
Celebrating our 150th Year, November 2022 to November 2023!
The Rock Island Library turns 150 years old on November 25, 2022, and since its beginning, we have continued to adapt and expand services to meet evolving community needs. If it's been a while since you visited, check us out this September!
