Memorial Day Closing

Rock Island Library buildings and Library2Go will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

Join us for Camp iREad this Summer!

Summer is full of stories, and there's no better place to start yours than at the Rock Island Public Library!

Camp iRead offers all-ages reading challenge and FREE events for campers of all ages, June 1 to July 31. To participate, sign up and log on Beanstack, our web and app-based reading tracker. This year, we're offering ONE challenge for all ages, so it's simple for campers to work together. You can even use Beanstack's Friends and Leaderboards to share your progress with friends or family members.

Camp iREad "Rules:" Number 1: Have fun!  Rule 2: Read whatever you want. Just read!  Rule 3: Summer reading events and activiites are open to anyone.

Blaze Your Own Trail to Summer Fun!

Our All Ages Summer Read Beyond the Beaten Path Challenge offers 24 reading and activity badges, based on reading by minutes and checking off activities. You choose which ones!  Any combination of 10 badges will earn you a completion badge. If you're an eager reading camper, keep going! Each badge earned equals one digital ticket you can apply towards prize baskets  for different ages. The baskets include fun things to add to your summer enjoyment, and include:

  • Adult "indoorsy" reader basket
  • Adult "outdoorsy" basket
  • Children's basket, for ages birth to four
  • Children's basket, ages 4 to 11
  • Manga pack 1, ages 12 to 18
  • Manga pack 2, ages 12 to 18
  • Marvel Mystery box, 12 & up
  • Marvel T-shirt pack, 12 & up
  • DC Mystery box, 12 & up

Be sure to update your Beantack profile to your current age bracket. Staff will be happy to help. If you've forgotten your password from last summer, you can reset it. We'll draw for these prize baskets after July 31.

Special camp swag: Show your summer reading camper spirit with our super cool Summer Reader patch. We'll have these available at our Read Beyond the Beaten Path kickoff on June 1 and at library locations afterwards while they last. Also while supplies last, you can show your reading pride with a Camp Read yard sign!  Up to 80 adult finishers can also claim a fancy RIPL baseball camp, handy for keeping the sun off your page or screen when you're reading outside.

Youth finishers may earn an invite to our End of Summer pool party at Whitewater Junction. We have room for 150, so be sure to contact us as soon as you finish your challenge. Staff will register patrons as capacity allows.

If you prefer a paper version of our All Ages Reading Challenge, see below, or check at a library location.
