Oh Boy!

When Steamboat Willie made its appearance on November 18, 1928, it was the start of something really big. That’s when Mickey the Mouse was born. It was actually the second Mickey cartoon from the heart of Walt Disney’s Company who co-created it with Ub Iwerks.
12 more Mickey cartoons appeared throughout the following year, 1929.
These are now in the public domain, and we were able to obtain copies of these originals.
We are thrilled to be able to share these with you at the Rock Island Public Library.
Come and have a good laugh together as you watch these 7-minute-each first episodes of Mickey Mouse. They will be shown on two days according to the following schedule:

Day 1 – Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Downtown Community Room in the order of their appearance:
Plane Crazy
Steamboat Willie
The Barn Dance
Plane Crazy
The Opry House
When the Cat’s Away
Barnyard Battle
The Plowboy

Day 2 – Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Downtown Community Room in the order of their appearance:
Karnival Kid
Mickey’s Follies
The Jazz Fool
Jungle Rhythm
The Haunted House
Wild Waves
Mickey’s Choo Choo
Springtime

Please keep in mind that American culture has changed in the past 96 years, so these little cartoons are not attuned to present day sensibilities.
