Watts-Midtown Driveway Work

Work began this morning on repairing the driveway leading into our Watts-Midtown Branch and the RI YMCA. Please note that there is one lane in and out of the parking lot. Please alternate when entering or leaving the lot, and note that there is no left hand turn onto the drive off 30th Street.

Remember that you can return items to any Rock Island Library, even if it was checked out at the branch. Miss Ranell's Friday storytime will move to our Downtown Children's Library for Friday. Thank you for your patience as the YMCA repairs this driveway.

Program Description

Event Details

Join us for an exciting opportunity to meet history... in person! with local historian and storyteller Brian "Fox" Ellis. Brian "Fox" Ellis has been regaling audiences for more than 35 years. Since 1980 Fox has been touring the world as a performer and educator. Through stories and song, myth and poetry, Fox brings the world to your school, library, festival or conference. He is a dynamic teller who, in a warmly entertaining manner, captures what is most life-affirming and beautiful in the human experience.

This performance will feature the following performance:

Black Hawk's View of American History: Imagine sitting around a campfire with Ma-ka-tai-me-she-kiuk-kiuk, listening to the stories of creation and the legends of his grandfathers. Drawing from Black Hawk’s Autobiography and his knowledge of American Indian Cosmology, Fox portrays the reporter who transcribed and published Black Hawk’s life story. Fox weaves true history with folklore to create a tapestry of symbolic language that draws the audience into the world view of this respected leader of his people. There are traditional chants and drumming songs, including a chance for the audience to participate in a few social dances.

This event is suitable for all ages. Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be provided.
