Program Description

Event Details

“The Sun, Our Living Star” is a full dome planetarium show produced by the European Southern Observatory’s Supernova planetarium.  The show explains how the Sun powers all life on Earth and how ancient people tried to understand its mysteries.  We also are taken on a tour of the Sun, explaining how it is structured, how it generates energy and how it compares to other stars in our galaxy all via cutting edge images from modern observatories and advanced computer simulations.

The program also features a tour of the current night time sky, a view of Augustana’s meteorite collection and tips on eclipse viewing provided by planetarium director Dr. Lee Carkner.  The total program is about 1 hour long and in the dark and is not recommended for children under 5.  Parking on campus is limited but street parking is available on 38th street.  All attendees should arrive by 6:50 pm, latecomers may not be admitted.
