New Art Exhibit Opens October 17

Library patrons can take a mini art break this fall at the Rock Island Public Library Watts-Midtown Branch, thanks to the final art exhibit made possible by a Quad City Arts Dollars grant.

Color & Expressions, a free exhibit, opens Friday, October 17 with a free reception from 4 pm to 5:30 pm in the auditorium of the Watts-Midtown Branch. Assembled by library arts curator David Zahn, the show features local artists Dawn Wohlford-Metallo, Jeremy Marquis, and Corrine Smith. The reception is free and open to the public and offers light refreshments and opportunities to meet the artists.

The artists provided the following general descriptions of their works:

  • Dawn Wohlford Metallo - My approach to art making is methodical. Each piece is carefully planned and goes through several time intensive processes before reaching its final state.
  • Jeremy Marquis - All compositional elements of the finished product are improvised throughout. Spontaneity and revision are fundamental components to my creativity.
  • Corrine Smith - Each piece begins with several drawings combined, often one over another. One of my concentrations is to create a strong composition. I approach the work intuitively by laying in color choices, be it paint or handmade papers.

Works will remain on exhibit during regular Watts-Midtown Branch hours through November 30. Paintings will be available for viewing during public events and when the room is not in use for private reservations. For questions about room availability, please check with branch staff.

The Rock Island Public Library art exhibits are made possible by support from Quad City Arts, through the Arts Dollars re-granting program, supported by The Illinois Arts Council Agency, a state agency, The Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, and the Quad Cities Community Foundation - Isabel Bloom Art Education Endowment.
