Program Description

Event Details

To kick off National Library Week, we're opening the book on what it takes to run a public library! Join us on four Mondays for the first-ever RIPL Library Citizen's Academy, and become a library expert. Attend all 4 sessions to earn a special keepsake and your honorary librarian certificate. Sessions and topics include:

April 20: How do libraries work? How are they funded?
Learn what makes a library run.
April 27: How do books (and more) get on our shelves?
How & why do we decide what to buy?  Learn the ins and outs.
May 4: Meet our departments.
How does each one fit into the big picture?
May 11: What’s ahead for libraries?
Strategic and future planning, new technology, and more.

All four events will be held at the Rock Island Public Library Watts-Midtown Branch. Please register to let us know that you'll be there.

Special note: If registration warrants, program will move to the branch community room.
